Fall Is Here…

Fall is here. Blazing colors and cool temperatures hint at winter’s approach and validate summer’s end. With fresh mornings and gleaming leaves, it’s one of the loveliest times of the year. But fall is more than a beautiful season.

No season marks transition as fall does. No season epitomizes change as fall does. Fall prompts us to value time. It reminds that nothing endures, and that all things end. In summer’s midst, winter is unimaginable, but with fall’s debut, there’s no doubt what lies down the road.

And so it is in our lives. Days, weeks, months, years go by. The ‘spring’ of our youth yields to the ‘summer’ of our prime – ‘seasons of abundance’ with seemingly no end. We laugh, we sing, we dance, we dream, thinking tomorrow will never come. Life is but a celebration.

Then something strange happens. We notice change. Things don’t appear as they once did. People come and go. Places transform. Our bodies change. And oddly, the clock doesn’t tick as slow as it once did, but looks to hasten with each second. The past blurs as the years dart, and we struggle to remember what happened when. Welcome to ‘fall.’

Fall is the ‘early warning’ season signaling finality. It’s the wake-up call that we’re not here forever. It’s the time to recognize change and mortality. It’s the alarm to do the things we’ve always wanted to do, lest time slip away. It’s the era when Mother Nature beckons our best before the ‘winter’ of  age settles in.  Yes, fall is more than a pretty face.

The sooner we grasp this, the better. Time waits for no one. Seasons change whether we like it or not. We must adapt or be overtaken. We can’t control the passage of time, but we can control what we do with it. Will we squander it, or will we use it to achieve our goals and dreams?

The choice is ours and ours alone. It’s up to us to create the life we want, for no one else will. No government, no boss, no client, no friend, no colleague, no spouse, absolutely no one, nor should, create the life we want.

So this fall, remember to look beyond the beauty, and see the season for what it truly is – a symbol of change and time passing. And don’t waste another second, for winter is just down the road…
