Create a New Mindset, Create a New Horizon…

Adjust the sail of a boat, and the boat follows a new direction. Like in sailing, like in life – create a new mindset, and we create a new horizon.

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think,” are the words of Gautama Buddha (583 BC to 463 BC), sage and founder of Buddhism.

Spoken some two and a half thousand years ago, those words are as relevant today as they were when they first departed Buddha’s lips. The power to shape our own thoughts is humankind’s greatest gift, but only if we use it in the right way. It’s our decision.

Our essence, our being, our mantra comes from within, and with that, we become who we become as a result of our thoughts, and it’s our thoughts that ultimately create our mindset. Change our thoughts, we change our mindset. Change our mindset and we change our future.

The vast majority of us lead lives of mundane routine. What we did yesterday is what we’ll do tomorrow, and what we’ll do the day after tomorrow. Our mindset is fixed in the ways we know. It’s as if we’ve been locked in a cage with the key thrown away and can’t break out. We watch in awe as others achieve staggering feats, and wonder why that’s not us.

The mind is a wonderful and powerful organism, but only if we’re brave enough to harness its full potential. We must summon the courage to run with our imagination and create a mindset of inner growth and new ideas. It can be scary to leave old ways in the rear view mirror and search for new ones on the road ahead, but to the bold go the rewards.

Swapping a self-limiting mindset for an ever-expanding one, whereby we wake up each morning never bored with what the world has to offer, and arise harboring the curiosity of a child walking its first steps – this is the attitude that holds the key to unlocking that self-imposed cage we struggle to break free from. This is the attitude of creating new horizons.

It’s no easy task, and it’s not for the meek. Success is not guaranteed and failure is sure to knock at the door, but only then, as failure knocks (see Don’t Fear Failure, Let Failure Fear You…), do we know that we’re on our way to achieving a mindset of infinite possibilities. Failure, to the right mindset, is but a temporary setback tied to the strings of a lesson to be learned.

It’s time to throw off the chains of an old, tired mindset, and release negative thoughts to the wind, where they duly belong. It’s time to embrace a new mindset, a new mindset that focuses on the positive that life has to offer. It’s then, and only then, we’ll cross the threshold from merely existing to truly living. It’s then, and only then, we’ll create new horizons…
